Music For Little People is a progressive curriculum in which children learn skills that lay the
foundations for future learning. The youngest children come to understand and feel the pulse of
music, whilst being encouraged to experiment with tempo and movement by the class leader.
From the age of two children recognise the puppets used in the classes and tap the rhythm
patterns that their names make. Older children learn to recognise and repeat rhythm patterns
relevant to that term's topic. The children also learn about notation - they come to recognise
that music is written from left to right, can determine high and low notes, and eventually read
and write music in a basic form using the tonic sol-fa system.
Developed by Karen Dickinson MA LTCL, a specialist in early childhood music education, the
curriculum supports learning in Foundation Stages for the National Curriculum; Personal and
Social Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Knowledge of the World,
Physical, Mathematical and Personal Development.
The classes are fun and educational, and a great place for musical interaction between parent and child.
We teach songs about the world, explore rhythm, percussion and movement. To learn more about our
